First: The name. This is a grade I received on a Composition paper. I was more bummed than I had ever been before: here I was, a communications major, that received a hideously bad grade on a paper. I was thrown. So this track was born out of it.
To this point, this track was the longest thing I had ever written, and I wanted it to be a full, uninterrupted piece of music. I believe that there is too much pressure on musicians to make their music "digestable" into soundbytes, or smaller pieces of a whole. I received a lot of flak for not splitting this track up, but I believe that some things must be about the journey, where it took you, and where it left you, in it's totality, and not simply about where it takes you on a soundbyte.
As a thought: this is probably the exact point that I gave up on writing industrial music with Cryogen Second, and started focusing entirely on writing for Becoming The Devourer. Each successive release after this has been more about an abstract concept, than it has been about a concrete idea.

On both Avalanche and the Whirlwind Remix particularly, Seeming manages the seemingly impossible feat of making it sound like there's 2 or 3 different songs going on simultaneously, in the best possible way. Such a huge spacious sound, and immaculate production and songwriting.
Also, I'm pretty sure Leonard Cohen would have heartily approved of this version of "Avalanche". <3 Conor Connolly
