(the D&D campaigns are getting mentioned a lot here) We really managed to catch lightning in a bottle with this particular group of people for the campaign. We were all equally invested in our characters development, both as avatars and as storytellers. With that in mind, there was a certain point in our adventure where our characters were captured and sent to work in a prison camp, traitors to a liar's kingdom.
In the mine, most of our characters were going through absolute hell, familiars being cast into the abyss, others were being regularly tortured, others being mentally reduced to the intelligence of herd animals. In keeping with my character's way, and with the approval of the DM, I tried to branch out and do something a bit different: I wrote a love story.
My character was inherently an unlikable person. She had been destructive to the party from the getgo, but there was something about creating an arc that humanized her that gave me reason to continue her ultimate redemption arc.
I've said this before, I will say it again, I learned more about myself playing a lawful evil elf for five years than I ever learned about myself in the thirty years prior.
On both Avalanche and the Whirlwind Remix particularly, Seeming manages the seemingly impossible feat of making it sound like there's 2 or 3 different songs going on simultaneously, in the best possible way. Such a huge spacious sound, and immaculate production and songwriting.
Also, I'm pretty sure Leonard Cohen would have heartily approved of this version of "Avalanche". <3 Conor Connolly
